Lubricant Manufacturers Status

Mr. Veiga said that Brazil's nine major lubricant manufacturers (members of Sindicom) took up 85% of the domestic lubricant market, while another 120 registered companies occupied the remaining 15%. Petrobras has dominated the passenger car, heavy duty and industrial lubricant markets in Brazil.

The respective lubricant market share of Sindicom's members between January & August of 2011 is as follow:
Petrobras: 24%
Chevron: 16%
Ultra: 15%
Cosan and Shell: 14% (each)
Petronas: 9%
Castrol and YPF: 3% (each)
Total: 2%

Apart from the demand rise of lubricant, Veiga expressed that the rising minimum quality level is the dominant trend in Brazil's lubricant market. The annual lubricant demand will grow by 2.5% from 2012 to 2020 by estimation, and this means a soaring demand for lower viscosity lubricants, which in turn means increased demand for API Group II and III base oils.
